Building a house of Love

Quote by Hafiz

Hafiz’s quote “The words you speak become the house you live in” reminds me of Proverbs 24:3 that says“Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”

So it could be saying that I build my house I live in by speaking words of wisdom, symbolically speaking. Perhaps in the Christian context, wisdom is symbolised by Christ, as he has “become for us wisdom, righteousness, holiness and redemption”, so when I speak words that remind me and others of who we are in Christ, an archetype of our true self or identity, I am building a house I live in. This house is being built on the rock (foundation of our innate righteousness and innocence), which is able to withstand the storms in life, as our security and stability is not dependent on external factors such as social standing or nationality or what other people say about us, etc.

In a larger context beyond Christianity, I would see that Hafiz’s quote applies universally in terms of how we co-create our own world or reality by the words we speak. Our words are spirit and they can manifest according to our words, so the kind of house we build and live in would depend on the words we speak. Words that frame our mind with the fruit of the spirit such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, etc will build a house that reflects the kingdom of God within us (which is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit), or in the Buddhist context, reflects the Buddha nature in us, or in new age context, reflects the Divine in us, or in the psychospiritual context, reflects the Self in us, and so on.

“Everybody in the house of love
Everybody in the house of love
One love – one God
Everybody in the house of love

We’ve got to stop the pain
And put the the wars on hold
Let the power of love inside the soul unfold
Free the mind
let it rise above
We’ve gotta change this world
To a world of love

Not bothered about your colour
Not concerned about your creed
in the house of love – everybody’s free

Everybody in the house of love …”

– East 17 “House of Love”
