“There is an Indian Belief that everyone is in a house of four rooms: A physical, a mental, an emotional and a spiritual. Most of us tend to live in one room most of the time, but unless we go into every room everyday, even if only to keep it aired, we are not complete.” —
The above quote is quite true, come to think of it – we are our body (physical), soul (mental and emotional) and spirit (spiritual). Just as we would go about in each room in our house on a given day, it would also do us good to pay attention and take care of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of ourselves.
So that’s where exercise and diet (physical) come into play, as well as philosophy and psychology (mental and emotional) – it’s healthy to express our intellect and emotions rather than repress them (unlike what some religion may indirectly teach their congregation to do so), and yes spirituality is about reconnecting us to our true self. I agree in that way, we experience our completeness – I remember reading somewhere that being holy means being “whole-ly”.
