There is no secret

I learnt from the video that as babies, we all develop a primal sense of depending on the mother figure as a symbol of God who knows and responds to our wants and needs, and as we grow up, there is a tendency of a transference of this primal relationship to a religious or political system, figure or individual, if we think that entity or person knows what we want better than we know ourselves.

Like Peter Rollins said, it can be used against us if self-professed gurus choose to make a living out of it at the expense of our independence. By being free from theological conversion, we can be free from the control of religious or political entities when we know that there is no secret others know about us except ourselves. It reminds me of Aristotle’s quote that says “knowing yourself is the beginning of wisdom”.
