Here’s sharing with some notes that I have taken from Otis Moss’ empowering message about learning to love ourselves.
I have learnt that the virus of invalidation and oppression lurks in every child, especially people of colour who live in the shadow of colonial history.
Like he said, when we begin to love who God made us to be, something transformative will happen in our spirit.
It is notable that Jesus himself grew up in a colonised community under the oppressive Roman rule, and knew what it was like to be invalidated by the dominating society who saw Jews as less than humans.
Indeed, he was addressing the colonised and oppressed people when he said that the prerequisite for loving our neighbour is to first love ourselves and live not for acceptance but from acceptance; thus, allowing God’s love to flow through us.
